"When you come into the land the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations" (Deuteronomy 18:9).
How much like the nations are we? Is our speech honoring to the Lord? Are the music and the shows we watch consistent with what we see to be honorable and good in the word of God? Do we concern ourselves with mercy and justice in a manner consistent with the character of God? What about our system of education? Is our learning rooted in the reality of a Creator? Do we declare to the next generation that our lives are given purpose because we can (and must) live for the glory of God, as his image-bearers? Is our system of mental healthcare established on truth?
And there are even harder and darker questions to consider. What happens when a child grows up with his eyes staring at images on a little screen? Who makes these images? And what of the dark, wicked, pornographic content in his father's pocket?
And what about the constant rush of business? Phones buzzing, texts and emails non-stop? Product promotion and labeling that is dishonest or oversold?
Are we Christians different?
