"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. This comes from the Lord who is the Spirit" (2 Cor. 3:18).
The Holy Spirit removes the veil so we can clearly see the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. This happens in the moment of regeneration. It means we understand that we are wretched sinners, but Jesus is our great Savior. This is an amazing spiritual miracle that brings about the amazing spiritual reality of the new birth. It is a once and for all event, the removal of the veil, that helps us see with new eyes. We behold the glory of the Lord!
But this once and for all event is also the catalyst for a lifetime of continuing growth and change. The Christian is being transformed into the image of Christ (Rom. 8:29). This means believers are on a journey of growth by degree. We are not all at the same place in this journey, but there is a road map and there is a travel guide. We have the Scriptures to show us how to progress from glory to glory and the same Spirit that wrought the new birth in us aids in our transformation, opening our eyes to God's ways.
This means three things for the unveiled journeymen. First, we worship and praise the Lord for enlightening the eyes of our hearts so we can behold and believe in the glorious gospel of Christ. Second, we must have his Word at the ready. It will show us how to grow. Third, we must prayerfully depend upon the Spirit, asking the Father for more (Luke 11:13). It is a gift he delights to give.
